The Accidental Fold, 2016

I have been collecting objects, or rather, fragments of the cities and places I travel through: wrinkled pieces of paper, written notes, paper airplanes, ribbons, flowers, and leaves, an abandoned shoe, a broken umbrella, a lonely glove, an orange peel, feathers, playing cards, and many other objects, for over the last 15 years. I describe them as my diary and a mapping of my movements across different countries and cities. Each object is cataloged by date and place.

Slowly, I built an archive of these seemingly trivial objects that caught my eye for their beauty, even though they were thrown away and seen as trash by most people. These objects illustrate the passage of time. For example, a piece of folded paper with the imprint from a pocket and a hand. This transformation of the object reveals what happens when something is forgotten, trampled on, spat on, only to be picked up again. These objects take on a new life and become things to be remembered and appreciated once more.

The book ‘The Accidental Fold’ is a collection of images from this archive, accompanied by short observations on daily life.
